October offer: up to $2,500 off a new heat pump install. Ends October 31. See what's included

High-efficiency boilers and combi boilers

Is a boiler right for your home?

  • You have radiant floors or hot-water radiatorsA new boiler works with the floors and radiators you already have.
  • You want heating and hot water from one unitA combi boiler does both, so there is no separate hot water tank to replace later.
  • Your boiler is ageing or unreliableLeaks, pressure that keeps dropping, or repairs that keep coming back.
  • Your home was built from the late 1970s to the mid-1990sRadiant floors from those years were often run in Poly-B, which changes what a boiler install has to include.

We don't install or service steam boilers.

How a boiler and a combi boiler work

A boiler heats water, and a pump circulates it through the loops in your floors or the radiators on your walls, then back to the boiler. A high-efficiency boiler is a condensing boiler: it pulls so much heat out of its exhaust that water vapour condenses out of it, and that recovered heat goes into your home instead of up the vent. We install Rinnai boilers.

A combi boiler does the same job and also heats your tap water as you use it, all from one wall-hung unit. It replaces both your boiler and your hot water tank.

Before we quote, we check whether your heating loop is Poly-B, the grey polybutylene pipe used in many BC homes built from roughly 1978 to the mid-1990s and known for failing at its fittings. Where we find it, the install includes our Poly-B protection package, which few other installers offer. It keeps the water in the old loop separate from the new boiler and limits how much water a leak can release. What Poly-B is and what we do about it.

Starting price

Starting-at prices, plus GST. The October offer beside the prices applies to combi boilers only, not to heating-only boilers.

Heating & cooling

  • High-Efficiency Boiler$11,500
  • High-Efficiency Combi Boiler$12,100

Standard electrical connection included. Electrical service upgrades (if required for your home) are quoted separately. Your final price is confirmed in writing before any work starts. All starting-at prices are plus GST.

Payment plans are available through FinanceIt, with the options covered during your free quote.

We take a 50% deposit to book your install. On CleanBC rebate jobs and strata jobs, we start with a $1,000 deposit, then collect the rest of the 50% deposit once everything is approved. Your deposit is fully refundable until one week before your install date, as long as no work has been done.

What every boiler install includes

One written price, agreed before we start, covers:

  • A new Rinnai boiler or combi boiler
  • All new mechanical-room components, not just the boiler
  • A full flush of the heating system
  • A Poly-B check, and the Poly-B protection package wherever we find it
  • Sizing based on how your current boiler has performed
  • Permits and inspections
  • New venting and installation materials
  • Standard gas and electrical connection
  • A follow-up after the install: a phone check-in, or a return visit for a larger or more complex system
  • A 6-year labour warranty, extendable to 12 years in total
  • We don't repipe Poly-B.
  • If we suggest a heat load report, we arrange it with an independent energy advisor, and it shows as its own line on your invoice.

How we size a replacement boiler

Going boiler to boiler, we size from how your current boiler has performed, plus experience. Did the house hold temperature on the coldest mornings? Did any rooms run cold? Did it cycle on and off in January? If it's a combi, did you ever run out of hot water? That history gets the size right almost every time.

The old boiler is a reference point, not a target. A boiler that's too big rarely gets cool enough return water to condense, so you lose the efficiency you paid for. We explain it in our post on boiler sizing.

We'll suggest a heat load report when a job is close to the edge, or if you'd like certainty. An independent energy advisor does it, to make sure the system is the right size. If you're switching from a boiler to ductless, one is part of the job.

Install day

We'll tell you how long your install will take when we give you the written price.

  1. Drain and remove

We drain the system and take out the old boiler and mechanical-room components.

  2. Install

We mount the new boiler, install the new components, and add the Poly-B protection package if your home needs it.

  3. Flush, fill and start up

We flush the system, refill it, clear the air out of the loops and fire up the boiler.

  4. Follow-up

We check in by phone after the install, or come back in person for a larger or more complex system.

Up to 12 years of labour coverage

6 years standard, with optional coverage up to 12 years.

It transfers when you sell

Labour warranties transfer to the new owner if you sell your home. The coverage adds value to the property rather than being lost.

Annual maintenance by Jolly Heating & Cooling is required to keep any labour warranty valid, whatever its term.

Questions we get asked

How do I know if my floors have Poly-B?

Poly-B is grey plastic pipe. We check by looking at the pipe where it comes out of the mechanical room wall, so you don't need to know before the estimate. The build year is a hint, not an answer: a home outside the usual years can still have Poly-B if it was replumbed while the pipe was in use.

Do you repipe Poly-B?

No. We don't repipe Poly-B and we don't quote it. What we do is protect the new boiler from the existing loop with the Poly-B protection package, which is required on any boiler install involving Poly-B and is a condition of the extended labour warranty on those systems.

Can a combi boiler replace my hot water tank?

Yes. A combi heats your tap water as well as your home, so the separate tank goes. Whether a combi suits your household depends on how much hot water you use at the same time, and we go through that at the estimate.

Is there a rebate for a new boiler?

No. Boilers and combi boilers don't qualify for a rebate. Switching from a gas boiler to a heat pump, such as ductless, can qualify.

Rebate amounts are subject to eligibility and program funding. We'll confirm what you qualify for during your free estimate.

Does a boiler need yearly maintenance?

Yes. An annual tune-up by us is what keeps your labour warranty valid, and on a combi we can descale the hot water side at the same visit. Our repairs and tune-ups page has the prices.

Do you service boilers you didn't install?

Yes. We service and repair hot-water boilers and combi boilers whether or not we installed them. We don't work on steam boilers.
