The City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver are separate municipalities, and both are among the few in BC that issue their own gas and electrical permits instead of leaving them to Technical Safety BC. Which office handles your job depends on which side of the line your home is on. We pull the permits either way.
The City’s heat pump permit
The City of North Vancouver has a building permit guideline for residential heat pumps, revised in July 2025. For a unit at ground level, the site plan shows the outdoor unit beside the house or inside the fence line, with an elevation drawing showing its full height. Balcony and roof installs need more, including a signed letter acknowledging the City’s noise bylaw.
