Is ductless right for your home?

  • You heat with electric baseboardsDuctless replaces them as your main heat and adds cooling.
  • You have radiant or hot water heatThere are no ducts to add cooling to. Ductless brings it without opening walls for ductwork.
  • You have an addition or a converted spaceRooms the main system was never designed to reach.
  • One room is always the wrong temperatureA single indoor unit fixes that room without touching the rest of the house.

How a ductless mini split works

A ductless mini split is a heat pump with an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units, called heads, mounted on the wall. A small line set (the refrigerant pipes and wiring) runs through the wall to connect them. Each head heats or cools its own room, and you set each one separately.

Single zone means one outdoor unit and one head, for one room or one open area. Multi-zone connects several heads to the outdoor equipment, so you can cover most or all of the house with each room on its own setting.

In Metro Vancouver, ductless is usually about heating: replacing electric baseboards, or adding heat to a room the rest of the system misses. The same heads cool in summer, so you get air conditioning without a separate system.

Heating & cooling

  • Ductless Mini Split, single zone$5,400
  • Ductless Mini Split, multi-zone$4,600 per zone

Standard electrical connection included. Electrical service upgrades (if required for your home) are quoted separately. Your final price is confirmed in writing before any work starts. All starting-at prices are plus GST.

We take a 50% deposit to book your install. On CleanBC rebate jobs and strata jobs, we start with a $1,000 deposit, then collect the rest of the 50% deposit once everything is approved. Your deposit is fully refundable until one week before your install date, as long as no work has been done.

Rebates you may qualify for

Which program applies depends on what heats your home now. CleanBC covers switching from gas heat. BC Hydro's rebate is only for homes heated with electricity today, such as electric baseboards, and it never applies when a heat pump replaces gas heat. Single-zone systems qualify for a lower amount than a whole-home installation. Reaching the maximum requires three or more zones plus coverage of a qualifying share of the home.

What every ductless install includes

  • The equipment and installation labour
  • Each head sized to the room it serves, with a heat load report when you are switching from another system type
  • Permits and inspections, pulled on every job
  • A licensed electrician, brought in and scheduled by us where the job needs one
  • Standard electrical connection
  • Help with the paperwork for whichever rebates you qualify for
  • A strata approval package for your council, if you live in a townhouse or condo
  • A post-install checkup: a phone check-in for most installs, a return visit for larger or more complex systems
  • A 3-year labour warranty as standard
  • Electrical service upgrades, if your home needs one, are quoted separately.
  • We arrange the heat load report with an independent energy advisor, and it shows as its own line on your invoice.

How we size each head

Ductless is sized room by room, because each head serves one space and has to match it. A head that is too big for its room heats it quickly, shuts off, then starts again. That is short cycling, and it wastes energy and wears the equipment. Why a bigger head is not a safety margin.

When ductless is replacing a different system, such as baseboards or a boiler, the room-by-room numbers come from a heat load report done by an independent third-party energy advisor. We arrange the report, and it shows as its own line on your invoice.

From booking to post-install checkup

  1. Free in-home estimate

Your home comfort advisor walks the rooms with you, plans where each head and the outdoor unit go, and looks at your panel. In a townhouse or condo, they also photograph each location for the strata package.

  2. Heat load report and panel check

If ductless is replacing another system type, an energy advisor does the heat load report. You send us your BC Hydro usage data and our licensed electrical contractor checks your panel.

  3. Your quote and scheduling

You get your price in writing. Standard jobs are 50% to schedule. Strata and CleanBC jobs start with a refundable $1,000 deposit. Once the application or approval is through, we collect the rest of the 50% deposit and book your install.

  4. Install

We mount the heads and outdoor unit, run the line sets, pull the permits and bring in the electrician where needed. The balance is due once the install is complete.

  5. Post-install checkup

We follow up after the install: a phone check-in for most homes, a return visit for larger or more complex systems.

Up to 12 years of labour coverage

3 years standard, with optional coverage up to 12 years.

It transfers when you sell

Labour warranties transfer to the new owner if you sell your home. The coverage adds value to the property rather than being lost.

Annual maintenance by Jolly Heating & Cooling is required to keep any labour warranty valid, whatever its term.

What our customers say

Rated 5.0 on Google

  • Rated 5 out of 5

Had a great experience with the Jolly team from start to finish. At the consultation, they explained all the different options and they did not pressurize us to make a decision quickly. We decided to install a heat pump with 5 mini splitters. Highly recommend!

They were very diligent in calculating and sizing the system properly - needless to say our home feels much for comfortable this summer! Wilson, our project manager was very responsive and throughly explained the system to us. He was also very thorough in his inspection of the system to make sure everything was functioning as intended.

Questions we get asked

Can I do just one room?

Yes. A single-zone system covers one room or one open area, which suits an upstairs bedroom, a basement suite or an addition.

Single zone or multi-zone: how do I choose?

Single zone fixes one space. Multi-zone covers several rooms, each with its own control, and is how ductless replaces baseboards as the main heat for a whole house. We go through it room by room at the estimate.

I heat with electric baseboards. Which rebate applies?

BC Hydro's rebate is for homes replacing electric heat, such as baseboards. It is available at any income level. We assist you with the paperwork.

Rebate amounts are subject to eligibility and program funding. We'll confirm what you qualify for during your free estimate.

What upkeep does a ductless system need?

An annual tune-up. If we installed it, that yearly servicing by Jolly is also what keeps your labour warranty valid. We service ductless systems we did not install, too.

I live in a townhouse. Can you help with strata approval?

Yes. We build an approval package for your strata council: photos of each equipment location with the placement drawn on, the equipment spec sheets, and our insurance, WorkSafeBC and TSBC licence documents. The council makes the decision, so we can't promise approval.
