A free, unbiased read on your quotes
If you're comparing quotes for heating, cooling or hot water, even if none of them are from us, send them over. We'll look at up to three and tell you what's different between them and what to ask each company.

What you get
Two quotes for "a heat pump" can describe very different jobs, and the differences are usually in the parts a homeowner has no way to judge. We read the quotes the way a contractor would and explain them in plain language.
You get two things: what's actually different between the quotes, and the questions to ask each company so you can compare like with like. If you want our honest opinion on which one suits your home, we'll give you that too.
How to send them
By email
Email up to three quotes to [email protected] with your name and phone number. A PDF or a clear photo of each page is fine.
By phone
Call us at (778) 800-8868 and we'll tell you what to send. We're open Sunday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
What we look at
These are the places where quotes for the same job most often differ.
How the system was sized
Whether a heat load calculation was done, or the size came from the old unit or the square footage. Switching system types, say a gas furnace to a heat pump, calls for a proper heat load. A heat load works against the winter design temperature where you live, which is colder in Port Coquitlam than in Richmond.
The equipment and its tier
The brand, the model, and where it sits in that brand's lineup. For a heat pump, whether it's a cold-climate model or a regular one, and which refrigerant it runs on. Some quotes still list R410A equipment, which is legal to install; we explain why we don't quote it.
What's included and what isn't
Things like removing the old equipment, the thermostat, electrical work, line set covers, and patching and painting. Two quotes for the same system can describe quite different jobs once you read the exclusions.
Electrical work
Whether a quote says you need a panel upgrade, and how that was worked out. Often it was a calculation from the panel label rather than your actual usage.
The labour warranty
How many years of labour coverage, what you have to do to keep it valid, and whether it transfers if you sell. Parts are covered by the manufacturer. Labour is the contractor's own promise, and the terms vary a lot.
Permits
Whether the permit is included in the price. We include and pull one on every job, so it's worth checking the other quotes do too.
What we won't do
We won't run down another company. If a quote is solid, we'll say so, and if a company does something differently from us, we'll explain the difference rather than call it wrong.
There's no pressure to switch. The quote check is useful whether or not you ever hire us, and that's the point of it.
Questions about the quote check
Is it really free?
Yes. There's no charge for the quote check, and no obligation.
Do I have to buy from you?
No. If one of the quotes you already have is the right one for your home, we'll tell you so. If you'd like a quote from us as well, you can book a free estimate, but the quote check doesn't depend on it.
None of my quotes are from Jolly. Can I still send them?
Yes. That's who the quote check is for.
Will you call me?
We ask for your phone number so we can go through what we found with you, which is usually quicker than a long email. If you'd rather hear back in writing, say so in your email.
What kinds of quotes can I send?
Quotes for heating, cooling or hot water in a home in our service area: heat pumps, ductless, dual fuel, furnaces, boilers, air conditioning, tankless and hot water tanks. We work on existing homes only, so the quote needs to be for a home someone lives in.
What if I have more than three?
We look at up to three. Send the three you're most seriously considering.
Will you tell me what's wrong with the other companies?
No. We'll tell you what's different between the quotes and what to ask about. We won't run down another company.
Want a quote from us as well?
We come to your home, look at what you have, and give you a written quote with options. You can send us your other quotes either way.
