Heating and cooling for White Rock homes
On paper, White Rock is two degrees milder than Vancouver in winter, and it has its own rules for hot water heating systems.
White Rock’s mild design temperature
The design temperature is the cold a heating system is sized to keep up with. The BC Building Code’s climate table puts White Rock at -5°C, two degrees milder than Vancouver and Richmond.
That’s good news for a heat pump. The colder it gets, the harder a heat pump works, and White Rock asks less of it on the coldest nights.
White Rock’s rules for hot water heating
If your home has a boiler with baseboards or in-floor radiant heat, White Rock has its own bulletin for hot water heating systems, last amended in April 2025. Before the City’s heating inspection, it asks for a gas permit from Technical Safety BC, a room-by-room heat loss summary, and layouts of the radiant panels or baseboards and the boiler room, all signed by a qualified heating designer.
The design has to follow the guidelines of BC’s Residential Hot Water Heating Association. We’ll tell you at the estimate what your boiler job needs.
